About

The CovHep coating is a covalently bound heparin-based coating. It is suitable for inner and outer surfaces of polymeric medical devices. The covalent binding assures the lowest heparin-leaching levels possible. The coating is processed in aqueous solutions, which makes it suitable for most non- and low-sweating medical polymers.

Key Properties:

  • Anti-thrombogenic
  • Supporting drug: Heparin
  • Typical activity after sterilization: 0.1 IU of heparin per square centimeter
  • Ultra thin - original dimensions will not be compromised
  • Ultra low leaching level
  • No generation of particulate matter upon use
  • Suited for non- and low-sweating polymer surfaces, e.g.: nylons - linear polyurethanes - PE - PP
  • Suited for a limited range of silicones (low sweating)
  • Colorless / transparent
  • Fully water-based coating process

Typical Applications:

  • Treatment of catheter sheath introducers (CSI) for thrombus prevention
  • Treatment of pacer leads for prevention of initial (wild) thrombus formation
  • Treatment of other blood-contacting polymeric medical devices

Pot-life graph of activated CovHEP coating solution

The CovHep coating solution has a limited pot-life after activation.
It amounts to some 6 hours at room temperature. Multiple activation is possible.
On the y-axis, 5 denotes the maximum possible coating result; 2 is still significant.
