About

The IoHep coating is an ionically bound heparin-based coating. Its suitability for inner and outer surfaces of endovascular catheters (radiology, cardiology, neurology) and other polymeric medical devices, combined with its superb anti-thrombogenic action, make it an ideal partner in fighting thrombus formation during clinical procedures.

Key Properties:

  • Truly anti-thrombogenic
  • Supporting drug: Heparin
  • Biological Activity: Anti-thrombogenic
  • Typical activity after sterilization: 0.07 IU of heparin per square centimeter (approx. 7 IU/catheter)
  • Ultra thin - original dimensions will not be compromised
  • Ultra low leaching level
  • No generation of particulate matter upon use
  • Suited for non-sweating polymer surfaces: nylons - linear polyurethanes - PE - PP
  • Suited for a limited range of silicones (low sweating)
  • Colorless / transparent
  • Fully water-based coating process

Typical Applications:

  • Treatment of diagnostic catheters (cardiology, radiology, neurology - inner and outer surface) for significant reduction of thrombus-induced patient risk.
  • Treatment of short-term invasive non-sweating polymeric medical devices to prevent blood clotting

Thrombin generation assay results

The Thrombin Generation Assay (TGA) strongly responds to contact activation of blood against e.g. polymeric or glass surfaces. The IoHep coating blocks the possibility of thrombin formation at and near the coated surface, which is demonstrated by the results presented here. This in turn dramatically decreases the chance of thrombus formation.
